Hair Extensions Frequently Asked Questions
Hair Extensions Frequently Asked Questions
Will Hair Extensions Damage My Hair?
The main cause of hair breakage in inferior hair extension systems are due to wax, metal or other hard compound hair extension bonds that do not flex when the hair is wet.
The Great Lengths Hair Extensions keratin bonding process will not damage your hair if applied in the prescribed manner by a Great Lengths Certified Hair Extension expert. The bond is applied using the Great Lengths hair extensions applicator, which uses less heat than a curling iron. The applicator simply moulds the bond around your natural hair and leaves it to cool. The bond is so small and light weight that it is virtually undetectable and causes no stress whatsoever on your natural hair.
How Long Will Hair Extensions Last?
it depends on what type of hair extension you have applied. Clip in hair extensions are a temporary option which can be applied for a special occasion and taken out straight afterwards. Semi permanent options last up to 12 weeks and are generally a tape hair extension system. Your more permanent options are prebonded keratin hair extensions such as Great Lengths hair extensions.
With regular maintenance, which includes brushing daily with a Great Lengths special hair extension brush, Great Lengths Hair Extensions will last six months. As your hair grows, the bond will naturally grow out with your hair. Proper treatment, such as using the Great Lengths Hair Extensions Wetlines after care products that are specially designed for Great Lengths hair extensions, will extend the life of your hair extensions.
What is the difference between flat and round bonds?
You’ll get more voluminous results from the round bond formation while flat bond formations will give a sleeker, more seemless result.
The flat bond formation can be more discrete in especially fine, thin density areas, such as the fringe area but on average density hair neither bond formation will be visible.
Will Hair Extensions Affect My Lifestyle?
Great Lengths hair extensions will not affect your lifestyle at all. The bonds of the hair extensions expand and contract with your hair and will not deteriorate over time unlike other types of hair extensions such as glues, waxes. With a little care, you can wear your Great Lengths hair up or down, go swimming, exercise and do most other things you would normally do without ever damaging the hair extensions or the bonds.

Can I get my hair coloured/highlighted while I have hair extensions in?
Yes, you can with Great Lengths prebonded hair extensions. A qualified Great Lengths technician is trained to colour between the hair extensions should this be necessary. You can easily freshen up colour in the “freezone” or top of the head section where hair extensions have not been placed.
Where does Indian temple hair come from?
For over 5000 years, Hinduism has been entwined in the rich culture of India. For Hindus, every part of life is a sacrifice, a giving of oneself or ‘Jivayajna’ for which one receives true spiritual fulfillment. On a daily basis, devout pilgrims travel to temples across India to pay homage to their gods by making an offering to the temple.
Worshippers donate objects such as gold trinkets, personal possessions or their hair, a symbolic offering to show their devotion to the deity. This ritual shaving of one’s hair is known as tonsuring.
At hair auctions, the temples fetch a good price in exchange for the hair and these funds are then used to aid the poor.
Great Lengths pays the highest price for the best quality hair and to ensure that hair has been donated willingly and ethically.
