Hair Loss Medication or Hair Loss Treatment

There are two main courses of action open to anyone who suffers from hair loss and wishes to do something about it. Broadly speaking: hair loss medication, or hair loss treatment. Medication, as the name implies, seeks to halt, redress or even completely reverse hair loss through the application and (usually) long term use of unguents, creams and other preparations. Hair loss treatment seeks to replace lost hair with donor hair from other parts of the scalp.

These days, hair replacement is actually a pretty good bet. It involves removing individual follicles and implanting them in the receipt area: the follicles take root and then fall out, leaving the root behind. That root grows as a natural hair. On the other hand, hair loss medication seeks to offer an alternative to mild cases of hair thinning and loss.

There are three basic classes of hair medication that can be considered. Two are man made, to a greater or lesser degree – they both contain artificially synthesised compounds that inhibit the production of DHT – a testosterone related hormone that causes progressive baldness. Both of these men made varieties of hair loss medication have experienced a pretty satisfactory degree of achievement in patients experiencing thinning of the hair. The compounds they contain (in one case, a compound called finasteride) slow down the production of DHT, which can dramatically reduce or even stop the thinning. In some cases, uses of these compounds (usually presented as a cream or medicated shampoo) have even shown re-growth of hair after the DHT production has been halted.

The third and less “artificial” form of hair loss medication is simple diet. Vitamins, minerals and so on. These play a major role in maintaining the health and strength of hair as researches have proved that often malnutrition can be a cause for hair loss.

So – hair loss medication or hair loss treatment? The choice, really, is entirely formed according to the severity of the hair loss and the magnitude of the patient’s desire to reverse it. A woman. For example, experiencing the rare but existing female equivalent of male pattern baldness, might well be best suited opting for proper operative hair replacement – because baldness in women tends to occasion more severe distress. A man experiencing receding hair and thinning of the hair might want to try the medication route before he opts for surgery – which is more expensive and painful.

Ultimately, the answer is personal. Explore the avenues that a doctor advises – including hair loss medication, which works a lot better now than it ever has done before.

Hair Loss Medication A New Ray of Hope for Hair Loss Treatment

Modern hair loss medication really works. That is the message being put out by top level hair clinics like the Harley Street Hair Clinic – which, as Britain’s most respected institution for hair loss research and treatment, packs a pretty hefty weight behind its opinions. The general consensus is this: modern research into the causes of hair loss has led to enough of an understanding of the underlying structures of balding ailments that medications designed to treat them really do work.

The most common cause of hair loss is an over production of a male androgen called DHT. DHT is basically a mutant product of testosterone – and it is the inhibition of DHT that is the goal of a lot of modern hair loss medication.

DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone, a substance that cause the natural life cycles of hair follicles to collapse. Once a human scalp starts an over production of DHT, its hairs fall out without re-growth – and so baldness starts to appear on the head. Modern hair medication acts directly on the production of DHT in an attempt to halt, slow or even reverse the balding process. By suppressing the production of DHT, the hair loss medicine allows the natural life cycle of the hair time to regroup and restart. In the best case scenarios, modern hair loss medication has actually reclaimed balding areas by kicking the scalp’s production of follicles back into high gear. In most scenarios, the balding process is halted though not necessarily reversed.

In order to understand how the medicine does this you first need to know a little bit about the mechanics of hair growth and hair life cycles. The natural life cycle of hair can be anything from a few weeks to six months – the time scales differ from person to person, though the stages are the same. First a follicle grows from a root. It achieves maximum length after a certain amount of time. Then it falls out – but the root remains. A new hair grows out from the root. And so the cycle is complete.

Modern hair loss medication allows that cycle to stabilise again after the excess production of DHT has knocked it off balance. Usually, a scalp that has been inhibited from producing DHT will allow extra protein layers to form around the unused roots of fallen out hairs. After a while, those proteins build up enough to “feed” the root again – and a new hair grows. This is of course the best case scenario: in other cases, where both hair and root have gone, the hair loss medicine simply stops any more hair from going the same way. Here, too, though, extra protein is found on the remaining hairs, which strengthens them enough that they can recommence their normal life cycle.

Modern hair loss medication, then, is a real ray of hope for anyone suffering from pattern baldness. Surgery is no longer the only answer to the problem of hair loss: these days, the right thing could just as easily be in a bottle.

Frontal Hair Loss Remedies

Article by Sudhani K

The most common cause of hair loss however is androgenetic alopecia (AGA) which causes hair loss due to the influence of male hormones. Androgenetic alopecia causes baldness only on men with genetic tendency for baldness which means that some men are prone to hair loss more than others. Normally, it starts as frontal hair loss but eventually spreads throughout the entire scalp until no hair is retained.

Frontal Hair Loss

Male pattern baldness which affects men who have the genetic predisposition, follows a certain pattern of hair loss hence its name. Fronto-temporal recession or frontal hair loss is a fairly common pattern. Even as teenagers, Caucasian men are already observed with frontal hair loss.

Frontal hair loss is characterized deep frontal recession or vertex balding which starts at puberty but the frequency of frontal hair loss increases with age. Starting with frontal hair loss, hair loss then progresses to end-stage balding wherein 50 to 60 percent of hair would be shed off by age 70. But then again, frontal hair loss that occurs during puberty may not progress and hair loss would be just about 15 to 20 percent.

As frontal hair loss begins, hair in the region becomes shorter and though not always, hairs may become finer as well. Eventually, this results to complete hair loss except at the lateral and posterior margins of the scalp where hair is retained.

The testosterone derivative hormone, dihydrotestosterone is considered as the culprit to frontal hair loss. The frontal region is an androgen-dependent region hence testosterone in this area of the head is readily converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Since testosterone levels are peaking during puberty, DHT levels peak at the same time and thus frontal hair loss occurs concurrent with puberty when males are most conscious about how they look.

Frontal Hair Loss Remedies

Since the males are particular about how other people perceive them, they may seek professional help. The advances in treatment for hair loss are very helpful in preventing progression of frontal hair loss to total hair loss. Since hair loss commonly starts as receding frontal hair line, frontal hair grafts could be done on patients who suffer from frontal hair loss.

Hair loss restoration surgery however can be very expensive. There are a however less expensive, more convenient and highly effective hair loss remedies that allow hair growth and reverse hair loss. Procerin has been proven effective in addressing the problems with frontal hair loss.

Normally, hair loss remedies are more effective when used at the earliest stage of hair loss. When used early, this product prevents progression of frontal hair loss and teenagers could very well enjoy their teens without fear of being judged due to hair loss.

Female hormonal imbalance problems may be a leading cause of female hair loss. Male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens may be out of balance to cause excessive hair loss. Pregnant women and women who go through menopause may experience excessive hair loss. Pregnancy and the months after labor, post-partum are especially vulnerable to hair loss, since there is abnormal activity of body hormones at the time. Many women notice hair loss about 3 – 6 months after they’ve had a baby. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. Several months’ later female hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, and normal cycle of growth and hair loss returns to normal again.

Hormone glands such as the thyroid gland may be overactive or under active and cause hair loss. Some medication may cause hair loss. Blood thinner medication, chemotherapy to treat cancer, birth control pills, menopause hormone therapy and antidepressants, all may be a cause for hair loss. Disease, such as lupus or diabetes and fungal infections of the scalp such as eczema may cause hair loss. Hair style that pulls the hair and roots as in wearing tight pigtails, and the use of tight hair rollers can cause hair loss. If the misuse continues for a long time it may cause a permanent hair loss. Chemical hair treatments such as perms and hair straightening may cause hair loss due to hair root damage.

Is Hair Loss Covered Under My Insurance Plan?

Article by Legacy Hair

Is Hair Loss Covered Under My Insurance Plan? “That’s a question I’ve had to answer thousands of times…” says Ronnie Talent, owner of Legacy Hair Center in Charlotte, N.C. “It depends on several different factors. But there are ways to increase your chances.” Hair loss will affect over 50% of men, and 25% of women in their lifetimes. The cost of surgical and non treatment options could potentially be thousands of dollars. There are several determining factors. 1. The type of hair loss. People can lose hair for a variety of reasons, including• Cancer• Alopecia• Male and Female Pattern Loss• Burns and Accidents • Thyroid Disorders• Lupus• And other medical conditions.

2. Your Insurance carrier. Some carriers are determined to do everything they can to deny insurance claims, no matter how severe the situation. Others are more sympathetic, and will be happy to help you quickly with a legitimate claim.3. Which hair loss remedy you are pursuing. I’ve seen a handful of cases where Insurance companies would consider surgical hair restoration and even laser hair therapy, but most have some consideration for non surgical hair replacement if the case is presented properly. 4. How organized you are. Documentation is crucial if you are serious about moving forward with your options. When seeking hair replacement for medical hair loss – some Insurance companies actually will cover between 80%-100% of the cost. NEVER FILE A CLAIM FOR A WIG!!! Always use the term “Cranial Prosthesis”.Follow these steps to file your claim to the Insurance Company:• Check the booklet given to you by your Insurance Company. Look under “Covered Expenses” relating to “prosthesis”.• Obtain a written prescription for a “Cranial Hair Prosthesis” on an actual prescription form, as well as a detailed letter from the doctor explaining your hair loss and distress you have experienced due to your treatment. It’s also best to include your own personal letter detailing the emotional effects hair loss has had on your life. Include that a Cranial Prosthesis is just as necessary as a prosthetic arm or leg. Also, explain the importance of you having hair for your job.• Take some pictures of yourself without your hair. This will prove that your claim is NOT for Cosmetic purposes.• Send your receipts, prescription, photos, and letters from the doctor and you to your Insurance Company. If your insurance company denies you coverage, you CAN appeal by sending a letter to the claims department supervisor.

Bear in mind, sometimes you’ll have to actually pay out of pocket initially, but the insurance company can reimburse you. If you are denied- keep trying! Persistence can pay off in a big way, and get you the help you need.
