How to Apply Hair Extensions?
How to apply hair extensions?
You could always visit a professional salon to get your hair extensions applied. However, if you are the DIY kind who loves to get hands on with things then you could apply hair extensions on your own as well. Here are some things to look out for as well as useful tips and tricks.
Get the tools in place
Firstly, before you begin attaching your hair extensions you need to ensure that all of the tools are in place. The last thing you want is to go searching for the tools while you are in the middle of applying an extension! Make sure you have a comb, hair clip and hairspray to keep your hair partitions in place.
Sectioning your hair
Make sure to comb back all of your hair so that it is separated from the rest of the face. Then, slowly partition the portions of this hair so that you can easily place the extensions on each section. If you happen to have long hair then a high quality grip will help to keep the hair in place. You might also want to place a grip on top of the hair to keep the hair in the same place.
Using the clip extensions
This is probably the only kind of hair extensions that you can apply on your own. The other variants are only meant to be applied under professional supervision. When you are using the clip hair extensions then make sure to apply a bit of hairspray onto the hair first. This will add volume and firmness to the hair texture. Then open up one clip of a hair extension piece and place it on the back of the hair. Continue this process until you have reached the front portion of the hair. The way to add the clip type hair extension is to gently place the clip on the portion of hair you want to attach it to. Then clip it on and continue with all of the clip extensions.
Glue based method
You can also use glue to bond the hair extensions onto the portion of hair you want. However, it is recommended that only a professional stylist perform this for you. You can achieve a long and flowy look by using the modulating technique. You can also apply lots of extensions by using a glue which is high in keratin. However, if you have thin hair, then do not try this technique as the bond can look very thick or may show.
Non glue methods
You can also apply hair extensions without usage of glue. You can choose to braid the extensions on your hair or use tiny tubes to attach the extensions. Sometimes, even dental floss can be used for attachment and then removed leaving an invisible thread. Silicon pads can also be used for a softer mode of attachment using manual methods. Microcylinder shells can also be used at times along with a silicon coating to attach the extensions on a strand basis.
Once you have attached your hair extensions finish off by applying hairspray and then gently brushing downwards starting from bottom and then working your way up.

How to Apply a Lace Front Wig
Lace wigs are not just for celebrities anymore. Even though many women are buying lace wigs online and in stores, there are not always enough qualified and affordable stylists to apply them. Some women prefer to apply the wig at home for privacy reasons while others do not want to pay for what they can do themselves. Whatever the reason, here is a simple step-by-step guide to applying a lace wig.
Application Preparation
Before applying any type of lace wig, you must purchase the proper supplies and prepare your own hair. Supplies include:
1 Lace front wig
1 Skin toned wig cap or Ace bandage wrap (optional)
1 Set of tweezers
Salon Quality Cutting Scissors
Bonding Agent (Glue or Tape)
Multiple hair clips and ties
Rubbing Alcohol
Skin protectant
If using glue:
Powdered makeup
Q-Tips
Suggested but not required:
Knot Sealer product i.e. Seal the Knot
Lace Cap Protectant Spray i.e. TDI Lace Cap Protectant
Once you have all of your supplies, you are ready to prepare your own hair. You will need to wash and condition your own hair before installing the lace wig. To keep your hair healthy and scalp from itching, a good wash and deep conditioner are suggested. Make sure the hair is completely dry and moisturized. If you have damaged hair or split ends, a trim is also encouraged. One of the primary reasons to wear a lace wig is promote healthy hair while having versatility.
After cleansing the hair and doing any of the suggested hair treatments, you have 2 options. Some women choose to wear a skin toned wig cap under the lace wig for added security while others simply brush their hair back and then apply. If you choose to wear the wig cap make sure that it matches your skin tone. You can braid your hair underneath the cap or just wrap it.
A great idea to create an even more realistic looking scalp is to apply Ace bandage. Ace bandage is a very inexpensive athletic bandage for muscle injuries that can be purchased at your local drugstore. It clings to itself so no glue or tape is applied to your hair or scalp. The texture of the bandage gives a bumpy appearance which mimics the scalp appearance underneath the lace front wig. It simply needs to be wrapped around the head either on top of a regular wig cap or directly to the hair. Make sure to cleanse your hairline with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely.
If you decided to purchase the suggested products, your wig will last far longer than others. The knot sealer helps to keep your lace wig from shedding during regular brushing and styling. Spray the product on the inside of the lace wig cap. Let it dry and then lightly blow dry. Next, apply the lace cap protectant. This will keep your lace wig cap strong and last longer. Since lace wears out over time, this is a great way to protect the lace front wig cap. Spray on the inside of the lace wig cap being careful to not get directly on the hair. Spray moderately so the product does not soak through the lace wig cap. Once dry, apply a second coat. Let this completely dry for at least one hour. Now you are ready to begin applying the wig.
A lace front wig has lace around the front perimeter of the hair from ear to ear. Depending on the lace wig that you purchase, it may be stretch lace from ear to ear or plain lace. It is suggested that you purchase a lace wig with French lace as Swiss lace is extremely delicate and should be professionally applied.
First, apply the skin protectant to your own hairline. While allowing this to dry prepare the lace front wig. Pin all of the hair back into a ponytail or bun. Any remaining hair near the hairline or layered hair should be pinned back with clips. When applying the wig you do not want to have hair flying in the way or into any bonding material.
Next, fit the lace wig to your head. This is the time where you will want to look at all angles and play with the lace wig to make sure it is perfectly positioned to your liking. You should then cut the lace. Make sure to not cut too close yet as you are still just eyeballing the positioning. When cutting, leave about 1 ¼ inches of lace remaining.
If the hairline of the lace wig is too thick, take out your tweezers. A thick hairline rarely looks natural and should be altered to adjust the density. Slowly tweeze out one strand of hair at a time. Make sure to not tweeze too many hairs from the same row or section. After every few strands stand back and see if the density of the hairline is improving. This process should take some time. Once hair is removed it can only be professionally reinstalled.
After fitting the hair and fixing the hairline, you are now ready to apply your bonding agent and finish cutting the lace. Since you are certain of the positioning and have tweezed out as much hair from the hairline as you want, you can cut the remaining lace. This cut should be as close to the hairline as possible without cutting into the lace wig hair.
To being bonding, keep your tweezers out if you are using tape. If you are using long tape stripes, 2 should be enough while 4 stripes should be used if you have the shorter normal tape. Gently flip the hairline of the lace wig back so the inside is exposed.
Next, eyeball the area you will tape. If applying the 4 shorter stripes, you should aim for both temples and above both eyebrows. Most tape has 2 paper sheets to peel off. Remove the first sheet by hand and apply. The next sheet can be removed with the tweezers as to not get your hands stuck to the tape. This will ease any frustration and accidentally ruining the tape. Follow this method on the rest of the lace wig hairline with the tape. Once all the tape is applied, readjust the placement so that when you flip the hairline back down, you can press down. Press down the hairline and roll your finger over each stripe of tape to tighten the bond.
If you are using glue to apply your lace front wig, the steps are very similar. Follow the same steps until you flip the hairline of the lace wig back. After flipping the lace wig hairline back, apply a thin layer of the glue near your natural hairline. Allow this to completely dry for about 2-3 minutes. On the lace wig cap, apply tape in the same way as previously listed. Using tape in addition to glue helps to keep the lace wig flat and gives it extra hold. Once the glue is dry on your hairline, press down the lace wig hairline after removing the remaining paper tabs of the tape.
With glue, you may see a minor shine on your scalp. First, make sure to remove excess glue before attempting to reduce glue shine. Take a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and carefully rub over the glue. For minor glue spots, this should loosen up the bond and be able to be easily removed. Once your hairline is dry, you can apply a pressed powder to reduce glue shine.

Learn How To Apply Clip In Hair Extensions
Article by Danni Reese
Clip in hair extensions are a great way to get instant long and beautiful hair and they are so easy to use. Many more women are opting for clip in extensions instead of permanent hair extensions because they are less damaging to your own hair and can be easily put in and taken out in the comfort of your own home, without the need for expensive salon visits. Usually a set of clip in extensions takes less than 10 minutes to apply after you have had a bit of practice. The more you practice, the easier it will be and you will soon be able to apply clip in extensions in next to no time and you will be able to spend more time styling them however you like.
To apply clip in hair extensions, you need to prepare the things you will need, read the instructions on the package carefully. With some patience and a little imagination, you can easily create the style you want to achieve.
Here’s an easy guide you can follow in applying clip in hair extensions. Choose a working area big enough for the things you will use – large clips to gather and hold your hair, a rat-tail comb for parting your hair in sections and a wide-tooth comb for combing the extension. Keep other tools and supplies handy such as a hair spray, a curling iron or a hair strengthener. Before you apply clip in extensions, make sure they are clean and that there are no tangles or loose hair. Practice opening the clips on the extensions to make sure they work. Remember, you’ll be working behind your head so you may not be able to see how they work properly.
After checking that all the clips in the extension work, you can now get your own hair ready by cleaning it and combing through knots. Before you apply clip in hair extensions, it is important to smoothen your hair to make the application easier. After you have done all the preparations, it’s time to apply clip in extensions. Using a thin comb, make a straight line along the bottom part of your scalp and clip all hair above this line to keep them from getting in the way. Always start from the bottom and work your way up your scalp when applying the extensions. Each hair piece comes with several clips that you would have to fasten on your real hair. Use the middle clip first, slide it along your hair roots right below the straight line that you created. Then do the same with the other clips, making sure that each clip is secured properly. Keep following the straight line and remember not to apply clip in hair extensions above the line. After you have securely fastened the first hair piece, use the thin comb again to make another straight line, about an inch above the first line. Tie all the hair above this line, as you have done in the steps above. Keep repeating the steps until you have completely fastened the whole hair extension piece. To make sure that your hair and the hair piece blend well together, comb through your hair as you apply clip in hair extensions. Bring some of your real hair on top of the clips to prevent the clips from being visible.
Cover the clips in the extension pieces with your real hair so that none of the clips are visible. When you apply clip in hair extensions, it is important to comb through your hair to mix the real hair with the hair pieces. Look at your self in the mirror to check if the hair extensions look natural. Trim to your desired length if necessary to create a more natural look. To create a more even look, ask a hairdresser to trim your hair or style it whichever way you like.
Creating the long hair look that you desire is no longer impossible – simply apply clip in hair extensions. Remember to prepare everything you need before you apply clip in extension to make the job easier. You can either follow the style recommended when you buy the product, or you can try changing the positions of your hair extension to create the style you like. With easy-to-apply clip in hair extensions, you can now look forward to sporting a longer, more stylish long hair that you have always dreamed of.
